Year of The Thingy

About

What happens when a filmmaker decides to turn the backroom of a pub into a cinema?

In 2024, Daniel Hutchings began screening his five feature-length art comedies, or Thingys, for the general public in Manchester to see if he could increase his audience numbers. Finding a home at The Eagle Inn in Salford, Hutchings documented who came to his Thingy events and what they thought of them. 'Year of The Thingy' captures the audience reactions, and the growing group of Thingy Fans, to all five of Daniel Hutchings' Thingys across the year. 'Year of The Thingy' is the about what happens when a filmmaker trying to make the world a happier place from the outskirts of the entertainment industry decided to turn the back room of a pub into a cinema. Come find out about the people who came to see the work of the filmmaker who Damien McFerran calls "the Walter Mitty for the digital age" and the Thingys that the Don't Tell Show says are "what indie film is all about" in a Daniel Hutchings Thingy about The Thingy Fans.
