Maddie Hardy

Maddie's work is instinctive and atmospheric, exploring the tension between softness and severity, beauty and discomfort. At the core of her process is a desire to create images that linger, holding space for contradiction and complexity. Her creative process begins by building a mood. This might start through music, writing or reference collecting, but always centres emotion before aesthetics. Whether styling, shooting or directing, Maddie prioritises how something feels before how it looks. Collaboration plays a key role in her work, and she often builds with others in organic and trusting ways. Her inspiration spans a wide range of media, particularly cinematography, literature and visual art. She is drawn to works that evoke a visceral response and uses that emotion to guide her own visual language. Queerness and subversion are recurring themes throughout Maddie’s work. Her imagery explores dualities like intimacy and violence or softness and rupture, using visual storytelling to articulate identity, tension and emotional nuance. Looking forward, Maddie hopes to move more permanently into film and creative direction, with a focus on building immersive, story-driven visuals that blend fashion, sound and emotion.
